Can It Up: January

One of my 2013 resolutions is to preserve even more…and more regularly. Luckily, our monthly Can It Up event enables my canning addiction.

Plus, you all inspire me with your creativity every month. Last month’s Can It Up with booze submissions were delightful!

Let’s talk about January…

Let’s Can It Up!

  • First, review the Can It Up ground rules.
  • During the month of January (that means up to January 31st), please either link your post to this post using the tool below; email me your post or photo; post your post or photo in the Comments section of this post; or tweet your post or a photo using our hashtag #CanItUp. Or you can do all four! I will do a round-up on February 1.
  • Please mention Can It Up and link back to this post.
  • To include your photo in the monthly roundup post, email it to me by January 31st. It must be at least 670 pixels wide and oriented horizontally (i.e. landscape).
  • Don’t forget that your preserve must be water-bath canned. Read up on water-bath canning.

January’s selected ingredient is citrus! Any kind of citrus will stand out as your preserve’s shining star.

P.S. If you have any questions/feedback/whatever, email me at allfourburners {{at}} gmail {{dot}} com.

I’ve been looking forward to citrus! I started seeing kumquat, and I’m very excited to try preserving it. There is also lemon curd, so many to try…

Gloria, I have WAY too many ideas. I’ll need to check what’s available at the farmers market this weekend.

  • I’ve been working with citrus all December, but I’ve got a couple of things that I want to try.

Love it, great way to start the new year! Now if I can just fit citrus food preserving into my kitchen remodel I’ll be set. Only problem, as of yesterday, I don’t have a kitchen ;-(
Here’s where creativity needs to kick in.

Lynn, perhaps citrus preserved in alcohol? I think I made grapefruit preserved in syrup one year.

Fabulous idea. Always like to try something new and gosh knows, I have enough lemons and limes on my two, supposedly dwarf trees to last me a year.

Lynn, that is awesome. I’m considering stealing (but not really) meyer lemons from my neighbor’s tree.

I completely forgot to e-mail you a copy of my photo. In the works now! I haven’t participated in any of your Can It Up!s before, so this is new territory for me. Thanks for hosting this and everyone’s recipes look awesome!
