Can It Up: June

I’m still in the throes of severe jet lag and sleep deprivation. To top it off, I think I’m coming down with a cold. If you’re really, really lucky, in lieu of whining, I may share a few photos with you in a later post.

I am thrilled that we are in the throes of preserving season! Stone fruits started to appear here in earnest last month; I am dizzied by the possibilities.

Let’s talk about what we’re preserving with this month!

Let’s Can It Up!

  • First, review the Can It Up ground rules.
  • During the month of June (that means up to June 30th), please either link your post to this post using the tool below; email me your post or photo; post your post or photo in the Comments section of this post; or tweet your post or a photo using our hashtag #CanItUp. Or you can do all four! I will do a round-up on July 1st.
  • Please mention Can It Up and link back to this post.
  • To include your photo in the monthly roundup post, email it to me by June 30th. It must be at least 670 pixels wide and oriented horizontally (i.e. landscape).
  • Don’t forget that your preserve must be water-bath canned. Read up on water-bath canning.

June’s selected ingredient is cherries! I preserved 4 pounds of cherries last month and can’t wait to get my hands on more! They should be your preserve’s shining star.

P.S. If you have any questions/feedback/whatever, email me at allfourburners {{at}} gmail {{dot}} com.

Can’t wait to see photos of your trip. I love cherries! I don’t know that i can keep my cherries long enough for preserving but I did preserve cherries last year.

Xena, that’s why you have to buy a lot. Some to eat, some to preserve with… 🙂

Cherries are not in yet here in Upstate New York. But so far I have been doing a lot of Rhubarb, such a Vanilla-Rhubarb Jam, Rhubarb Syrup and Wild Blueberry and Rhubarb Jam. Strawberries are coming in. Tonight I made some Strawberry Dark Chocolate Balsamic Jam – one of my faves.

Wow, that strawberry dark chocolate balsamic jam sounds absolutely amazing! So inventive!
