Can It Up: May (and a Giveaway!)

Posted on 01 May 2014

We’re officially in preserving season! It’s May; there must be something to preserve where you are!

In April, we rooted about in the best of winter’s leftovers! But now we can get down and dirty…and inspired!

What is this month’s Can It Up ingredient?

Don’t forget to read all the way to the bottom of the post for this month’s giveaway!

Let’s Can It Up!

  • First, review the Can It Up ground rules.
  • During the month of May (that means up to May 31st), please either link your post to this post using the tool below; email me your post or photo; post your post or photo in the Comments section of this post; or tweet your post or a photo using our hashtag #CanItUp. Or you can do all four! I will do a round-up on June 1st.
  • Please mention Can It Up and link back to this post.
  • To include your photo in the monthly roundup post, email it to me by May 31st. It must be at least 670 pixels wide and oriented horizontally (i.e. landscape).
  • Don’t forget that your preserve must be water-bath canned. Read up on water-bath canning.

This month, the shining star of your preserve will be herbs! Honestly, I’m a little overwhelmed by this selection. There are FAR too many choices.

P.S. If you have any questions/feedback/whatever, email me at allfourburners {{at}} gmail {{dot}} com.

This month’s giveaway is a classic for a reason: the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving. It’s pretty much the granddaddy (or momma) of all preserving books and deserves to be on your shelf (which is why it was also January’s prize!). a Rafflecopter giveaway

I tasted some great herb & fruit syrups last summer…

I love this theme. I made some fig preserves with thyme last year that became favorites. If only there were more fruits at the farm market so that I can get great tasting fruit. I’m very happy with the broccoli at the farm market but I won’t be canning that anytime soon.
