2013: the Year in Review

Are you a data junkie? Because I totally am.

Out of curiosity (and because I heart Google Analytics), I checked what the most popular posts of 2013 were.

Dear readers, I love you for — among other things — your consistency. As you may love me for the lack of mine (at least when it comes to posting).

You love preserves! Fruit butters, in particular. Especially when it means that you can use the slow cooker.

  1. Slow Cooker Vanilla Caramel Pear Butter
  2. Slow Cooker Spiced Maple Pumpkin Butter
  3. Pineapple Rum Jam with Lime

Among my usual resolutions for the year (eat more vegetables, work out more), I pledge to post more regularly…and post more preserves recipes specifically.

I hope that you have had a good 2014 thus far. I have, even though it was particularly painful waking up this morning. Boo to early mornings!

Lemon Clementine Chutney with Cranberries

Neccessity is the mother of invention.

More accurately, not wanting to waste food is. You see, I’ve used fruit as decoration for our annual (?) holiday party for the past few years. This year, I was determined not to let it go to waste.

In my house, cooking large amounts of fruit naturally means preserving. I had planned to make lemon curd for this month’s Can It Up, but someone already covered it.

Brown Butter Toffee Chip Cookies

Did you watch Sesame Street growing up?

Although I liked many characters (though NOT Big Bird — he was a big yellow mess) from that show, my favorite was clearly Cookie Monster. He loved cookies; I loved cookies. He was messy; I was messy. He was blue; my favorite color was…red.

The color discrepancy notwithstanding, I related to Cookie Monster. He had simple wants and needs, like me.

Also, I really, really liked cookies.
